1st Annual Pink Out for the Cure
Congratulations to Nadeau!
Their window won our 1st Annual Pink Out for the Cure competition. We truly appreciate their enthusiasm and can’t wait to see what they come up with next year.

The law firm of Adams and Reese raised $8,500, more than double last year’s total, for Susan G. Komen for the Cure New Orleans as the firm held a “Pink Day,” filled with a
dress-down day, luncheon, games and events for employees and a silent and live auction. Adams and Reese also had a team of more than 60 runners and walkers and volunteered at several booths at the Komen New Orleans Race for the Cure. Adams and Reese Partner, Frank Liantonio, (below) who serves as the current President of the Komen New Orleans Chapter, addresses the firm’s employees in attendance at the law firm’s “Pink Day”
to raise money for Susan G. Komen for the Cure.

The Round Table (student council) at the Stuart Hall School for Boys recently sponsored a pink snowball sale with all proceeds going to the Susan G. Komen N.O. Affiliate.
For $1, the boys enjoyed Pink Bubble Gum or Pink Sour Lemonade snowballs prepared for them by Dr. Laforge, Officer Bobby Guidry, Mr. McDonald, Mr. Krieger and members of the Round Table.
The boys raised $212 for breast cancer research!

On Oct 1, Slidell Youth Football Association presented Janie Boyer, a Komen volunteer and survivor, with a check in the amount of $1000 at their "Pink Game". The players, coaches, referees and the field were all dressed
in pink for the occasion.

McMain Secondary School held a "Pretty in Pink" Day on Oct. 21st to raise awareness about breast cancer. Susan G. Komen N.O. Affiliate provided our flamingo flock and a guest speaker for their occasion.

The New Orleans Fire Department hosted a fundraiser in honor of breast cancer awareness in October. Their efforts turned into a generous contribution of $1,500.00. Jenny Greene, a Komen Board member, accepted the check on behalf of the Komen N.O. Affiliate on Nov 4.

The Patterson Dental New Orleans branch raised $5,500 for the Susan G. Komen New Orleans Affiliate. During October, their "Grins for a Good Cause" campaign held a raffle for a pair of Saints tickets and a 2-night stay at
The Roosevelt Hotel in New Orleans.

On October 21st, the "Cosmos for a Cure" fundraiser and fashion show was held to help
kick off Race for the Cure. The event was at Twist on St. Charles Ave.
All proceeds benefited Susan G. Komen N.O. Affiliate. "Cosmos" were the signature drink, the models looked gorgeous and a good time was had by all.
The event raised over $1,300 for our Race for the Cure.

East Jefferson General Hospital goes "Pink" in support of Breast Cancer

Breona Harlan, a senior at Hahnville High School, wanted to do her senior project on something that would allow her to help out others. She decided to focus on philanthropy and nonprofit organizations. She hosted a fundraiser where she sold breast cancer awareness bracelets and set her goal at $500.
In the end, she exceeded her goal and raised up to $651.
All proceeds were donated to the Komen New Orleans Affiliate.
Breona chose Susan G. Komen because our mission is vital to her. She had a great aunt who died from breast cancer, so this project is very close to her heart. Her project has impacted her life and it is something that she can be proud of. Breona plans to continue to contribute to the Komen cause and
help make a difference in her community.

On October 18, students and faculty members at R.J. Vial Elementary School raised $236.39 for Susan G. Komen N.O. Affiliate by hosting a "Pink Dress Down Day" in honor of breast cancer awareness month. Students, Erin Housend and Margo Matherne, proposed the idea to Principal Jackie Sperier. Students donated $1 and in return, they were allowed to wear pink. Their school was filled with pink and the students were happy to donate to such a great cause.

On October 20, St. Anthony of Padua School joined in the fight against breast cancer. The Student Council headed "SAS Goes Pink for the Cure Day". Each student, faculty and staff was asked to wear a pink t-shirt or pink accessories and bring $1 or more to be donated to Komen. Their end result was a generous contribution of $266.00.

Mandeville Middle School held their 2nd Annual "Pink Shirt Day" to raise money for breast cancer research. This year they made their donation in memory of Anne Peirce, one of their teachers who lost her battle with cancer. Their contribution totaled $656.75.

St. Martin's Episcopal School held a "Volleyball for the Cure" Event in honor of breast cancer awareness month in October. They raised $2,459.64 for the Komen New Orleans Affiliate.

of $503.50 in October to support Susan G. Komen for the Cure New Orleans Affiliate.

In October, the staff and students of Belle Chasse Academy Naval Air Station
held a cookie sale and raffle as part of their annual Breast Cancer Awareness activity.
They raised $234 from their efforts.

Capital One-Southcoast, Inc. held a Breast Cancer Awareness Lunch for its employees
on October 27th. Their event honored Southcoast survivors, Caroline Brady, K.T. Snyder,
Karen Hall and others. It was suggested to donate whatever you would typically
spend on lunch and it was required that you wore PINK.
A total of $476.00 was collected and donated to the Komen N.O. Affiliate.

On November 2, Poydras Home on Magazine St. held a breast cancer awareness inservice for its employees. One of our volunteers and survivors, Rachel Haley-Davis attended as their guest speaker to share her story and spread awareness about the risks facing women today.
A bake sale was also held and raised $100.00 for Susan G. Komen N.O. Affiliate.

At Our Lady of Holy Cross College, the students taking the Introduction to College Success
course planned a project in honor of Breast Cancer Awareness month.
They sponsored a bake sale at the college and chose Komen as the beneficiary of the proceeds.
In a 50 min. class period, they raised $170.00 for our affiliate.
You all get an "A" for your efforts!

On July 1st, a "Pink Party" event was held during Essence Festival at Razoo's on Bourbon St. Donations were collected which benefited the New Orleans Affiliate. Darron Wheeler & JaVania Raspberry (left) organized the event. A great time was had by all and they raised

On June 12, the "Who's Who in I Do" Bridal Show was held at the Westin Canal Place. The show was fantastic and very well-attended. We are so grateful that Susan G. Komen for the Cure N.O. Affiliate was chosen to be the beneficiary of a $1,050 donation check from the event ticket sales. "Pink in the Park"
 
The New Orleans Zephyrs held Breast Cancer Awareness Night at Zephyr Field on Friday,
May 27th. It was a wonderful event to promote breast cancer awareness to the community and support Susan G. Komen for the Cure New Orleans Affiliate. Karen Stone (top), a survivor and our 2011 Race Co-chair, threw out the first pitch. Karen also shared her inspirational breast cancer journey to inspire others to get screened and learn more about Susan G. Komen.
The Zephyrs auctioned off a pink team jersey signed by all the players
with proceeds in the amount of $160 donated to Komen
plus the ticket sales proceeds totaled $559.
The Zephyrs won 6-3 against the Albuquerque Isotopes!

Manicure for the Cure was held on April 10th at Elegant Nails & Spa at 3134 Calhoun St. organized by Alex Barron, Emily Kamin, Hannah Mellman, and Heather Tischler through Tulane Hillel. A website was created for people to sign up for appointments on April 10th, and they also registered students outside Tulane's student center. They registered almost 100 girls and raised almost $1000 for Susan G. Komen for the Cure!
Komen breast cancer literature, pens, wristbands, free nail polish donated by essie, and snacks were available that day. They held this event to help increase breast cancer awareness for women their age by supporting Komen because of our commitment to finding a cure and for providing support for those diagnosed with breast cancer and their families.
Tulane Hillel looks forward to doing Manicure for the Cure again next year!
